Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
The Cardinals on Monday claimed RB Tony Jones Jr. off waivers from the Saints. That, of course, comes a day after RB James Conner suffered a knee injury and doesn't bode well for Conner's chances of playing in Week 6. Arizona also went without RB Keaontay Ingram in Week 5 because of a neck injury. We'll see about his availability for Sunday's game against the Rams. Emari Demercado currently stands as the best bet to lead Arizona's backfield for that one and is worth a look on waivers this week for needy fantasy teams.
Cardinals RB James Conner logged 6 carries for 48 yards in Week 5 vs. the Bengals before leaving in the second quarter with a knee injury. In his absence, rookie Emari Demercado put up 45 rushing yards and a TD on 10 attempts. We’ll keep an eye on Conner’s health throughout the week. Should he miss time, Demercado would be a name to consider off the waiver wire ahead of Week 6 vs. the Rams.
Cardinals RB James Conner suffered a knee injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Bengals. He's officially questionable to return. With RB Keaontay Ingram inactive with a neck injury, Arizona is down to RB Emari Demercado.
Cardinals RB James Conner piled up 98 rushing yards and 1 score on 14 attempts. Surprisingly, Arizona’s O-line opened up several holes for Conner to exploit. He nearly went untouched on his goal line score from 5 yards out. The veteran has now scored in two straight, while he’s hit 15 opportunities in all three games. He’ll be tested Sunday at San Francisco, especially with the 49ers having a rest advantage.
Cardinals RB James Conner received 23 carries for 106 rushing yards and 1 TD in Sunday’s loss to the Giants. The veteran only saw a single target in Week 2 and didn’t record a catch. For the second week in a row, Conner significantly out-worked his fellow RBs with 82.7% of the backfield touch opportunities, reaffirming his status as a workhorse for fantasy managers. He’ll figure to be a quality RB2 option again in Week 3 vs. the Cowboys.
Cardinals RB James Conner saw 14 carries for 62 rushing yards in Sunday’s loss to the Commanders. He also caught all 5 targets for 8 receiving yards in Week 1. Those who play in PPR leagues can’t be too upset with a double-digit performance, and 73.6% of the team’s RB carries from Conner. The Cardinals' offense is likely to struggle until QB Kyler Murray returns from rehabbing his ACL. Next up for Arizona is a Week 2 game vs. the Giants.
The Cardinals released RB Corey Clement. It's confirmation that Keaontay Ingram has won the No. 2 RB job behind James Conner. Ingram is worth a look near the end of deeper fantasy drafts.
Cardinals RB James Conner missed four games and most of two others last season. But he was busy and productive when healthy. In 11 games with a snap rate of 55+%, he averaged 15.2 carries, 63.8 rushing yards, 4.8 targets, 3.9 catches, 24.2 receiving yards, and .73 total TDs. Conner's scoring average in those games would have ranked seventh in PPR and eighth in non-PPR. Arizona made no significant additions to the backfield this offseason and only returns RBs Keaontay Ingram and Corey Clement. So Conner appears poised for more big volume and looks like a prime value in 2023 fantasy football drafts with an ADP of RB25. See exactly where Conner sits in our RB Rankings.
The Cardinals named Drew Petzing their new OC. The 35-year-old has spent the past 9 seasons working under Kevin Stefanski in Minnesota and then Cleveland, with titles ranging from assistant WRs coach to TEs coach to QBs coach this past year. Petzing has no experience calling plays at any level. It's a rather bold hire by new Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon. We'll see what we can learn about Petzing over the next 6+ months.
The Cardinals named Jonathan Gannon their new HC. The 39-year-old has been in the NFL since 2007, working his way from Falcons defensive quality control coach to Eagles defensive coordinator for the past 2 seasons. Philadelphia finished 2nd in yards allowed and 8th in points allowed last year. We'll see how Gannon fills out the offensive side of his staff.
Cardinals RB James Conner (knee, shin) has been officially ruled out for Week 18 vs. the 49ers. Given that the 49ers' defense ranks as the single-toughest matchup for opposing RBs in adjusted fantasy points allowed this season, we don't believe any other Cardinals RB is worthy of fantasy consideration this week. You can avoid this backfield altogether.
Cardinals RB James Conner (knee, shin) didn't practice again on Thursday. Friday's injury report will give us a better idea as to whether or not the veteran will be able to go against the 49ers in Week 18. We'll keep an eye on this one.
Cardinals RB James Conner (knee, shin) didn't practice on Wednesday. We'll be sure to track the status of Conner in anticipation of Week 18 vs. the 49ers on Sunday.
Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury said Monday that X-rays on RB James Conner's shin came back clean and that the injury is "nothing major." It sounds like Conner has a shot to play in this weekend's finale vs. the 49ers -- although it's certainly possible that he's held out of a game that means nothing to Arizona. Conner's absence would leave the Cardinals' backfield to Corey Clement and Keaontay Ingram.
Cardinals RB James Conner suffered a shin injury in the 2nd half of Sunday's game vs. the Falcons. He never returned – although he did remain on the sideline and was allowed to speak to the media afterward. That suggests the injury isn’t serious, but Conner said he wasn’t sure if he’ll be able to play vs. the 49ers next weekend. Stay tuned to Shark Bites for updates on his status for that one.
Cardinals RB James Conner ran for 79 yards on 16 carries (4.9 per rush) in Sunday's narrow loss to the Falcons, adding 31 yards on 3 receptions. He watched TE Trey McBride claim the team's only TD, in a game that also included 4 Matt Prater FGs. Conner closes out the season with a difficult matchup against the 49ers, for those playing fantasy through Week 18.
Cardinals RB James Conner suffered a shin injury in the 2nd half of Sunday's game vs. the Falcons and is officially questionable to return. We'll update his status when we know more.
Cardinals QB Colt McCoy has cleared the concussion protocol and is expected to start Sunday's game vs. the Falcons, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. McCoy is no savior, of course. But he's a significant upgrade over QB Trace McSorley. McCoy's return is good news for RB James Conner and WRs DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown.
Cardinals RB James Conner rushed 15 times for 79 yards and a TD in Sunday night's OT loss to the Buccaneers. It was Arizona's only TD for the game. Conner added 7 catches for 41 yards among 8 targets. Conner gets a high-upside Week 17 matchup with the Falcons, who rank 7th most friendly to RBs by adjusted fantasy points allowed.
