Zach Ertz Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Cardinals TE Zach Ertz (hamstring) is active for today’s game vs. the Lions. He was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Friday, so there’s elevated risk here. But we haven’t heard anything about Ertz being limited today. And the matchup vs. Detroit’s 21st-ranked TE defense adds upside.

Cardinals TE Zach Ertz (hamstring) is "looking good" to play vs. the Lions today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Ertz was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Friday, so he carries elevated risk in Week 15 fantasy lineups. But there's still plenty of upside here with Arizona likely to put a bunch of points on the board today.

Cardinals TE Zach Ertz (hamstring) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Lions. He was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Friday. We'll look for further updates on his status.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Cardinals expect WR DeAndre Hopkins to miss the rest of the regular season with a knee sprain. The team is "hopeful to get him back at some point in the postseason." It's worth noting here that NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Hopkins is "expected to miss Sunday and likely more." Those 2 reports don't necessarily clash, but might be reason to wait before dropping Hopkins from your roster right away if you can help it. However long he's out, Hopkins' absence can only help the target outlooks for the team's other pass-catchers. Christian Kirk and A.J. Green both look like top-30 options across fantasy formats for Sunday's game at Detroit.

Both ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hear that Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (ankle) is unlikely to play vs. the Seahawks today. Schefter reports that a final decision on Murray's status won't be made until pregame warmups but that "signs point" to QB Colt McCoy getting another start. Rapoport says there's a "chance" Murray is able to play -- but a "better chance" that it's McCoy. We won't get Arizona's inactives until 3 pm ET, so Murray belongs on fantasy benches unless we get a more optimistic report on his status. McCoy played well in his 1st start vs. the 49ers 2 weeks ago but bombed last week vs. the Panthers. He's a low-end QB2 and a clear downgrade for Arizona's offense.

The Eagles traded TE Zach Ertz to the Cardinals in exchange for rookie CB Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth-round draft pick. Ertz has been on the trade block all year, and Arizona came calling after losing TE Maxx Williams to a season-ending knee injury last week. Williams averaged 4 targets in 4 healthy games this season. Ertz has a chance to exceed that mark the rest of the way, but he'll probably struggle for reliable weekly fantasy value alongside Arizona's deep WR corps. We're assuming Ertz won't play vs. the Browns this weekend after playing his final game for the Eagles last night. The real winner here is TE Dallas Goedert, who should finally get a full-time role in Philly with Ertz out of the way. See where Goedert and Ertz sit in the updated Rest-of-Season Rankings.

Update: Ertz isn't even eligible to play vs. the Browns on Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Ertz should make his Cardinals debut in Week 7 vs. the Texans.

Teams are calling the Eagles about trading for TEs Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz, according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer. Glazer adds that he "wouldn't be surprised" if 1 of them is dealt within the next week. A trade would likely increase the fantasy value on both guys considering they've been splitting work in Philadelphia.

Eagles TE Dallas Goedert was not activated from the COVID list and is out for tonight's game vs. the Bucs. We'll see if he can get cleared for Week 7. TE Zach Ertz is a nice target bet tonight with Goedert out and Philly likely to deploy a pass-heavy game plan.

Eagles TE Dallas Goedert has been placed on the COVID list. With Philly hosting the Bucs on Thursday night, Goedert seems unlikely to be cleared in time for that one. His absence would turn TE Zach Ertz into a low-level spot-start option.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz has been activated from the COVID list. So he should play vs. the Cowboys on Monday night. That's bad news for TE Dallas Goedert, who's run just 2 more pass routes than Ertz through 2 games.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz landed on the COVID list after testing positive for the virus, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. Ertz is vaccinated, per Pelissero, giving him a chance to be cleared in time for next Monday night's game vs. Dallas. He'll need to exhibit no symptoms and register 2 negative tests 24 hours apart. We'll keep an eye on the situation. TE Dallas Goedert will get a big boost if Ertz misses Week 3.

The Eagles have placed TE Zach Ertz on the COVID list. It's not yet clear whether Ertz tested positive, which would likely push his return timeline beyond Monday night's game at Dallas. Fantasy football players should assume Ertz will miss Week 3, unless we hear otherwise. That would help the outlook for Eagles TE Dallas Goedert.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz (hamstring) isn't listed on the final injury report after putting in a full practice on Friday. No surprise there after Ertz returned to last week's game. He'll continue to form a TE committee with Dallas Goedert.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz returned to a limited practice on Thursday. He's on the injury report with both "hamstring" and "rest." We're guessing Ertz will play vs. San Francisco this weekend after returning to the opener, but we'll get another update tomorrow.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday. He returned to the opener after tweaking the hamstring, so we're expecting him to be available for Week 2. But check back tomorrow for another update.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz is questionable to return to Sunday’s game against Atlanta with a hamstring injury. Ertz caught 2 of 2 targets for 34 yards before departing.

Update: Ertz later returned to the game.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz says issues with the team have been "mended," according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. "This is the place I want to be, this is the place I want to retire," Ertz said, speaking publicly for the 1st time since the start of training camp. "I'm moving on from everything that happened this offseason. There have been apologies." This, of course, doesn't mean that an in-season trade is out of the question. But we have to head toward Week 1 assuming Ertz will be an Eagle for the year. That obviously cuts into the weekly upside -- and floor -- for Dallas Goedert, who has moved down our TE rankings. There is room in the offense for both to be fantasy relevant, though.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman said Wednesday that he expects TE Zach Ertz to be on Philly's roster when the season begins, according to ESPN's Tim McManus. We wouldn't expect to hear anything different from Roseman, regardless of where trade talks might be on the veteran player. The fact that Ertz hasn't gone anywhere yet, though, means we should draft as though Ertz will be an Eagle come Week 1. His continued presence would certainly affect Dallas Goedert's fantasy ceiling, but we expect the younger TE to emerge as Philly's clear leader at the position this season. Even if their target counts sit close together, Goedert is the much better bet for a deeper average target depth and for yards after the catch.

Eagles insider Howard Eskin hears that there's now a "great chance" TE Zach Ertz will be on the team for the "start of the season." That last part is noteworthy because it leaves open the possibility of an in-season trade. Still, Ertz sticking around for any number of games would hurt TE Dallas Goedert's fantasy value. In their 7 shared games together last year, Ertz out-targeted Goedert 45 to 42. We'd expect that to swing in Goedert's favor in 2021. But his chances of finishing near the top of his position in targets would be slim with Ertz to contend with.
