Best Week 16 Moves From Our Fantasy Football Pros

Best Week 16 Moves

Whether you're playing redraft, dynasty, or even DFS, knowing what moves to make is crucial to success.

That's why we're having each of our fantasy football pros give you one move to take advantage of this week.

Bet on a Cooper Kupp Bounceback

Jared Smola

Kupp is coming off a big, fat goose egg in a rain-soaked game against the 49ers. But he’s in a prime spot to bounce back in Week 16.

Kupp goes from one of the toughest matchups for slot receivers to one of the easiest. The 49ers, led by CB Deommodore Lenoir, rank first in adjusted fantasy points allowed to the slot. The Jets, who Kupp gets this weekend, rank 22nd on the season. And they’re down to 30th over the last five weeks.

CB Michael Carter has struggled for most of the season and has been dealing with a back injury lately. His backup is CB Isaiah Oliver, who has allowed 77% of passes in his coverage to be completed this season.

With outside CBs Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed healthy for a matchup with WR Puka Nacua, we could see more work funneled to Kupp on this inside this weekend.

If you survived his Week 15 goose egg in season-long, stick with him this week. Kupp is also an excellent DFS tournament play at what figures to be low ownership.

Sit Bo Nix

Matt Schauf

Headshot of Bo Nix

Yep, I’m the same guy who advocated in this space for playing a couple other QBs over Jalen Hurts last week. I was wrong. But this is different.

Hurts’ big outing vs. the Steelers did rely on a huge passing turnaround from an offense that had been struggling in that area for a few weeks. But we knew he, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith had that potential.

We’re still learning about Denver’s rookie QB.

The Good

Nix has had a good season overall. But his production has been all over the place. Just look at his weekly fantasy finishes:

  • 17th
  • 27th
  • 14th
  • 30th
  • Eighth
  • 10th
  • 16th
  • Second
  • 23rd
  • 12th
  • Fourth
  • Eighth
  • 25th
  • 15th

I bolded that eight-game stretch in the middle because that’s when Nix appeared to grow into a fantasy QB we could believe in.

But even that span included rough spots. And it got rougher the past two weeks.

The Bad

Nix completed 65.6% of his passes through the first 11 games. That dipped to 57.3% over the past three weeks – against three straight defenses that rank among the league’s bottom half in pass DVOA (Raiders, Browns, Colts). He tossed 5 INTs vs. 6 TD passes over those three games.

Nix got lucky to save last week’s fantasy line with 3 TD passes. Two of those scoring drives started inside the Indy 40-yard line. He threw for just 130 yards.

And even with the past two poor outings coming at home, Nix has been much more productive in Denver than on the road.

Stat Home Away

Total Attempts233234
Yards per Game 240.4 184.1
Yards per Attempt 7.22 5.51
Passing TDs155
Passer Rating 93.7 78.5

Now comes a Thursday night road clash with a Chargers defense that just got battered by Baker Mayfield. Yet they still rank seventh in pass DVOA for the season.

There’s at least as much downside risk to Bo Nix this week as upside. You can probably do better in 1-QB formats.

Don’t Bench Lamar Jackson This Week

Shane Hallam

Headshot of Lamar Jackson

This may be the biggest “no duh” suggestion ever in this article, but many Facebook and Reddit posts have popped up about benching Jackson ahead of his game with the Steelers.

Unless you have Josh Allen or Jalen Hurts on your squad, don’t even think about benching Jackson.

Yes, he hasn’t had great fantasy numbers against the Steelers over his career, but the Ravens will be at home playing a banged-up Pittsburgh defense.

Safety DeShon Elliott is expected to miss his second straight game. His loss was felt last week as Jalen Hurts threw the ball down the field, gaining 290 yards and two TDs through the air.

Hurts also added 45 yards rushing and a TD.

Jackson could undoubtedly put up those numbers, especially after seeing the offense favor the deep pass against the New York Giants last week (with Jackson throwing five TDs).

T.J. Watt will play for the Steelers, but he won’t be 100% with an ankle injury.

This is the best smash spot opportunity Jackson has had against the Steelers.

Do not bench him.
