Bills WR Keon Coleman turned in a second straight quiet outing after his big opener. He caught just three of four targets for 20 yards in Thursday night's win over the Dolphins. Coleman made a strong hands catch on a quick slant to convert a third-and-one in the second quarter and also drew a 20-yard pass interference penalty in the first quarter. But Coleman also had a drop on comeback route that would have gone for about 10 yards. The good news is that his playing time bounced back after dipping in Week 2. Coleman led Bills WRs with a 75% snap rate and 84% route rate vs. Miami.
Coleman's route rate has yo-yoed over the first three weeks from 94% to 63% to 84%. That low number in Week 2 was partly due to the blowout win over the Jets, although Coleman's playing time was still down in the first half of that one.
Buffalo's pass-catching corps is a tough unit to project on a weekly basis. OC Joe Brady likes to rotate players in and out, and the offense's entire matra is "everybody eats."
That said, it looks like Coleman will generally be this team's top WR at least in terms of playing time. He's drawn a target on a middling 19.6% of his routes through three games -- a mark that will need to rise if Coleman is going to be a reliable fantasy option. But this is a young WR with room to grow in a high-scoring offense.
Coleman remains an intriguing fantasy asset, although he should only be considered a volatile WR4 for now.
