Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Ravens WR Odell Beckham (ankle) missed his second straight practice on Thursday. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that Beckham wasn't expected to miss games with this injury, but it seems like there's at least a chance he isn't able to play vs. the Colts this weekend. We'll see how Beckham is listed on the final injury report tomorrow.
Ravens WR Odell Beckham (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said earlier this week that Beckham's injury isn't expected to cost his time, but we'll keep an eye on his status over the next few days leading up to Sunday's game vs. the Colts.
Ravens HC John Harbaugh says the ankle injury that knocked WR Odell Beckham Jr. out of Sunday's win over the Bengals is minor. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Beckham is "managing the issue" and that it's not expected to cost him game time going forward -- "if all goes well." We'll watch Beckham's status heading into a Week 3 home date with the Colts. WRs Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay each gained significant playing time Sunday vs. Week 1. Nelson Agholor went from 0 Week 1 targets to leading the Week 2 receiving production, but his playing time didn't grow with Beckham going down.
WR Nelson Agholor led the Ravens with 63 receiving yards in Sunday's win over the Bengals. His 5 catches tied TE Mark Andrews for the team lead and included a 17-yard TD. Agholor benefited from WR Odell Beckham Jr. leaving early with an ankle injury. WR Zay Flowers fell just 1 yard short of Agholor, with a 4-62 receiving line on 5 targets. WR Rashod Bateman drew just three looks, catching all three for 18 yards. We'll see about Beckham's status for a Week 3 home date with the Colts. Even if he's out, though, we wouldn't make Agholor a priority pickup on waivers this week.
Ravens WR Odell Beckham has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game vs. the Bengals with an ankle injury. We'll update his status when we know more. Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor will operate as Baltimore's top three WRs the rest of the way.
Ravens WR Zay Flowers drew 10 targets among QB Lamar Jackson's 22 pass attempts in Sunday's easy victory over the Texans. Flowers caught nine of them for 78 yards (8.7 yards per catch). Rashod Bateman and Odell Beckham Jr. garnered 3 targets apiece, tying RB J.K. Dobbins for second on the team (and Dobbins went down in the third quarter). We'll see whether target distribution continues to look similar. Flowers at least looks like the clear top choice among Baltimore wideouts for Week 2 against Cincinnati, though.
Ravens TE Mark Andrews (quad) is officially inactive for today’s game vs. the Texans. That leaves Isaiah Likely as Baltimore’s lead TE. In two games without Andrews and with QB Lamar Jackson last season, Likely registered a 20% target share and receiving lines of 7-77-1 and 1-24-1. He’s in a new offense this year with more target competition for Baltimore’s WRs. But Likely still looks like a lower-end TE1 option for Week 1. Andrews’ absence also moves Rashod Bateman, Zay Flowers, and Odell Beckham up the WR rankings.
Ravens WR Odell Beckham (ankle) is not listed on the final Week 1 injury report. He was limited in Thursday's practice but a full participant on Friday. It doesn't look like the ankle will be an issue in Sunday's opener vs. the Texans.
Ravens WR Odell Beckham was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Thursday with an ankle issue. Check back tomorrow to see if Beckham practices and how he's listed on the final injury report for Sunday's opener vs. the Texans.
Ravens WR Odell Beckham missed practice for the second straight day Friday, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. We haven't seen a reason for the absence yet. The absences on the verge of the team's second preseason game makes it appear unlikely Beckham will play. He also didn't play in the first. Let's hope we get a look at the veteran wideout before the regular season. Reviews have generally been positive on his training-camp performance. Beckham sits third among Ravens WRs in our 2023 fantasy football rankings, though.
Ravens WR Odell Beckham Jr. left practice early on Monday. Per reporter Jamison Hensley, he didn’t return to the field after making a diving catch along the sideline. We should get an update on Beckham shortly.
Update: HC John Harbaugh said Beckham avoided an injury.
Ravens WR Odell Beckham said he has "no real limitations" as training camp gets underway. "I don't know percentages; I just feel good," Beckham said. "I feel like I'm going to continue to work to get back to who I know I truly am." Beckham has played just 21 games over the last three seasons -- and none since tearing his ACL in the Super Bowl in February 2022. But he's had a healthy offseason and has bounce-back potential in what should be a pass-heavier Ravens offense under new OC Todd Monken.
Ravens HC John Harbaugh gave his early assessment of WR Odell Beckham. “It seems to me that Odell has a good plan,” Harbaugh said Wednesday. “I see him working himself on a schedule to be ready to start the season. He’s definitely not where he’s going to be, but you could see the step (up) from minicamp…it was a good step in the right direction.” Beckham, 30, recently told The Athletic that he’s approaching 2023 like it’ll be his final season. If he can stay healthy, spot-start WR3 value is within reach given a more aggressive Baltimore offense.
ESPN analyst Matt Bowen expects the Ravens to play at a faster pace this season. That wasn’t the case last year; Baltimore ranked bottom-5 in plays per minute (1.63) and no-huddle rate (4.4%). “They decided last year under [OC Greg] Roman they were going to control tempo by slowing it down,” Bowen said. “[It was] a lot more condensed formations; they had much different personnel than you’ll see this year. [Fullback] Patrick Ricard last year played a critical role in that offense; I don’t know that he has a pivotal role this year with what I expect to see out of Monken." Bowen, a former NFL safety, shared more on his forecast for the 2023 Ravens. “This year, and I have old playbooks of Todd Monken, is a lot more spread, a lot more trips, a lot more empty," he continued. "What they’re trying to do with pace of play is to be more aggressive and control tempo in terms of creating more tempo.” We detailed more of Monken’s impact in a new article on NFL Coaching Changes. Overall, we’re bullish on this offense making considerable improvements.
The Ravens selected Boston College WR Zay Flowers with the 21st pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Flowers dealt with some bad QB play in college. His raw numbers were solid: 2,715 yards and 26 TDs over the past three seasons. But Flowers looks much more impressive from a market-share perspective. He accounted for 32.7% of his team’s receiving yards over the last three years and a whopping 45.6% of the receiving scores. He’s a fun watch on tape: an explosive route runner and dynamic after the catch. The knocks against Flowers? He’s undersized at 5’9, 182 pounds with second percentile arm length. And he’s a four-year college player who will turn 23 in September. The ceiling feels a bit capped here – at least for 2023. Baltimore’s no longer hurting for pass catchers with Mark Andrews, Rashod Bateman, and Odell Beckham. Flowers projects outside the top-50 in year one.
Free agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. has reportedly agreed to terms with the Ravens on a one-year deal worth up to $18 million, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. A separate report from ESPN's Adam Schefter indicated that this deal includes $15 million in guaranteed money. That total is a bit jarring for a former Pro Bowl wideout who spent the 2022 NFL season rehabbing a torn ACL sustained in Super Bowl LVI as a member of the title-winning Rams. Regardless, the WR corps in Baltimore was due for an upgrade, and perhaps OBJ can bring some life to that offense. The biggest issue with projecting this move's fantasy impact is that we don't know who the Ravens' starting QB will be come Week 1. Lamar Jackson remains unsigned and could potentially be traded per the terms of the non-exclusive franchise tag that Ravens GM Eric DeCosta placed on him earlier this offseason. Should Jackson find a deal elsewhere, the Ravens could feasibly position themselves high enough in the 2023 NFL Draft to select a rookie QB, but that's merely hypothetical. The signal-caller on the roster we can most safely assume will be around is Tyler Huntley, a player who failed to surpass 200 passing yards in his five regular season starts in 2022. As of now, it's best to hold off on any "OBJ to the moon!"-type of reaction.
