Tua Tagovailoa Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is on the Week 17 injury report with a left thumb and quad. He was limited in Wednesday's practice. We've heard nothing to suggest that Tagovailoa is in danger of missing this weekend's game vs. the Ravens, but we'll keep an eye on his status over the next few days.

Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill (ankle) is INACTIVE for today’s game vs. the Jets. He tried to give it a go but evidently didn’t feel well enough in pregame warmups. Hill’s absence removes 30% of Miami’s targets, 32% of the catches, 41% of the receiving yards, and 48% of the receiving TDs. It’s obviously a huge loss for QB Tua Tagovailoa, who is not a must-start against this tough Jets defense. The Dolphins figure to lean more on their run game today, while WR Jaylen Waddle and potentially the RBs get a boost in target share.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa failed to throw a TD in Monday night's loss to the Titans for the first time this season. He completed 70% of his passes but for just 240 yards. His 7.3 yards per attempt was his fourth-lowest mark of the season. Miami's usually machine-like offense looked out of sync right from the start of this game. C Connor Williams left early with an injury, joining LT Terron Armstead on the sidelines. Tagovailoa also lost WR Tyreek Hill for more than a quarter with an ankle injury -- and Hill was clearly at less than 100% when he eventually returned. We'll keep an eye on all of these injuries this week. Tagovailoa also has a difficult schedule to contend with the rest of the way: vs. Jets, vs. Cowboys, at Ravens. It's the toughest remaining QB schedule, according to our adjusted fantasy points allowed. Tagovailoa looks more like a low-end QB1 -- and not a must-start -- over these final three weeks.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa had a nice Week 13, with 280 yards and 2 TDs in a blowout victory over the Commanders. But that score kept him from doing more. Tagovailoa attempted just 24 passes for the game, including going a mere 6-for-9 in the second half. He got pulled with 11:23 remaining. That obviously limited the QB's fantasy scoring for the game. More worrisome, though, is the remaining schedule. Tagovailoa looks good for a Week 14 matchup with Tennessee, which remains much tougher on the run than the pass. But his final three fantasy weeks are the toughest in the league for QB scoring by a wide margin. Try to secure a platoon for partner for the final three weeks.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa posted 325 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT in Sunday's win over Vegas. Tua wasn't particularly sharp in this one, with one fumble and a couple of clear misfires. Still, he hit 300 yards for the fifth time this season. Other than a Week 13 matchup at Washington, Tua’s rest-of-season schedule continues to look challenging. So he’s a viable sell-high if you can find a manager desperate for QB help.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa tallied only 193 yards and 1 TD in a Week 9 loss to Kansas City. Miami fell behind 21-0 at halftime, but Tua still finished with a moderate 34 passes. His lone score went to Cedric Wilson on a nice deep pass. Late in the fourth quarter, though, Tua underthrew Wilson on what should have been a game-tying TD. “It was a miscommunication with Cedrick Wilson,” Tagovailoa said in the postgame presser. “In big time moments those things can’t happen.” Tagovailoa will look to rebound against Vegas after a Week 10 bye.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa went off for 324 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT in Sunday's win over New England. Tua wasn’t perfect in this one, as he threw at least one pass that should have been picked off. He also lost a fumble. Still, when you’re firing 56% of your targets at Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, good things are bound to happen. Sure enough, that duo alone combined for 15 catches, 233 yards, and 2 TDs. Tua’s remaining score went to Cedric Wilson at the goal line. Keep the young QB in lineups for a potential Week 9 shootout vs. Kansas City.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa completed 23 of 32 passes for 216 passing yards with 1 TD and INT apiece in Week 7’s loss vs. the Eagles. His 10.3 fantasy points (4-point per passing TD format) are the lowest of 2023 so far. Of course, part of these struggles can be attributed to the fact that WR Jaylen Waddle was sidelined for a decent portion of the contest with a back injury, but the strength of Philadelphia’s defense deserves credit here. Week 8’s divisional showdown vs. the Patriots should yield better results for Tagovailoa.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa was surgical in Week 3, completing 23 of 26 passes for 309 yards and 4 TDs. The Broncos missed a couple of key defenders, but they were simply dominated in this one. And that was with Tua missing Jaylen Waddle (concussion). His scores went to Tyreek Hill, Raheem Mostert, and Devon Achane. A top-3 fantasy QB on the year, Tua travels to Buffalo for Week 4.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa completed 21 of 30 passes for 249 yards with 1 TD and INT apiece in Sunday night’s win vs. the Patriots. His Week 2 stats aren’t as eye-popping as last week’s 466-yard aerial assault, though Miami had significant contributions from RB Raheem Mostert on the ground in this divisional contest. Fantasy managers can confidently start Tagovailoa again next week vs. the Broncos.

Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill started hot, snagging 11 balls for 215 yards and 2 TDs in a win over Los Angeles. His yardage marked the third-most in a season-opener in league history, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Hill scored from deep and in close, showcasing his extraordinary burst throughout the game. On the day, Hill saw a 33.3% target share and accounted for 46.1% of Tua Tagovailoa’s 466(!) passing yards. If Tua continues to cook, Hill will retain an overall WR1 upside for the road ahead. The upcoming schedule just isn’t a cakewalk: at New England, vs. Denver, and at Buffalo.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa enters Year 4 looking to build off a breakout 2022. He tallied four top-six fantasy finishes, a number that might have been higher if not for several concussions. Overall, Tua benefited from the dynamic pairing of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle – plus the scheme of new HC Mike McDaniel. Credit McDaniel for truly emphasizing a Hill–Waddle duo that combined for a 51.2% target share. Tua also ranked 5th in RPO pass attempts; 3rd in play-action throws. 2023 turns up even more speed following the arrival of RB Devon Achane. While we’d still like to see O-line improvement, Tua’s ultimately positioned for a top-12 fantasy season. See exactly where he sits in the QB rankings.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa admitted that he considered retiring after sustaining multiple concussions last season. “Yeah, I think I considered it, you know, for a time, having sat down with my family, having sat down with my wife and having those kind of conversations,” he said. Tua ultimately opted to keep playing, citing his love for the game and his desire for his son to grow up watching his dad play. He's spent part of this offseason doing jiu-jitsu to "learn how to fall." Tagovailoa explained, "Learned some grappling techniques. Learned some other things too that I don’t think I should disclose. But for the most part, learned how to fall. You think it’s easy. Just don’t fall and hit your head. But a lot more to it.” The head injuries add risk to Tua' short- and long-term fantasy outlooks. But he was excellent last year in his first season under HC Mike McDaniel, ranking 8th among QBs in fantasy points per game.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins signed QB Mike White to a 2-year deal worth “up to” $16 million. It’s solid backup money for the former Jet, who’s proven capable as a spot-starter over the past 2 seasons. Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history suggests we’ll likely see White on the field at some point in 2023.

The Dolphins have picked up QB Tua Tagovailoa’s 5th-year option. In doing so, Miami guarantees his $23.4 million salary for 2024. Essentially, he’s locked in as their short-term starter. Consider Tua-Tyreek Hill and Tua-Jaylen Waddle fine best ball stacks at cost.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has cleared the concussion protocol after meeting with "several medical professionals," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "They are confident he’ll be 100% when the time comes for football," Rapoport adds. Tagovailoa sustained 2 concussions -- and appeared to sustain a 3rd -- during the 2022 season, ultimately missing 4 games and most of another. When he was on the field, he scored as a top 10 fantasy QB. It sets him up as 1 of the bigger risk/reward picks at QB in 2023 fantasy drafts.

QB Tua Tagovailoa is expected to return as the Dolphins' starter next season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Tagovailoa suffered 3 -- ahem, 2 -- concussions this season, ultimately missing 4 games and most of another. His play tailed off late in the season, but he finished with a 65% completion rate and big 8.9 yards per attempt. "The Dolphins have been pleased with Tagovailoa's development this season under first-year coach Mike McDaniel," per Schefter, and "medical professionals also are confident that Tagovailoa should be able to resume his NFL career next season, if not sooner."

Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel told reporters Wednesday that QB Tua Tagovailoa is out for Sunday's playoff opener against the Bills. Doctors have yet to clear the QB for football activity coming off his latest concussion. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Miami is preparing as though Skylar Thompson will start. That doesn't rule out the possibility of Teddy Bridgewater returning from the finger injury on his throwing hand, but you should prepare as though the rookie will line up behind center. This obviously downgrades Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle for all fantasy football formats.

Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel wouldn't say Monday where QB Tua Tagovailoa is in the concussion protocol but did say that he's seen Tagovailoa "sweating" in workouts. That suggests that Tua is at least in Stage 2 of the 5-stage protocol, giving him a chance to be cleared for Sunday's Wild Card game vs. the Bills. McDaniel said Monday that he'll have game plans for all 3 potential starting QBs, with both Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater (finger) iffy. We'll get Miami's first practice report of the week on Wednesday.
