Justin Fields Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Bears HC Matt Eberflus talked up Justin Fields’ deep ball ability at OTAs. “I would say, ‘Man, he throws a good deep ball,’ ” Eberflus said. “I’m excited about that. And you could see it in the seven-on-seven and 11-on-11s, and we’re gonna take our shots down the field and, man, he does a nice job doing that. And that’s what stands out to me.” Fields wasn’t afraid to go deep last year, posting the league's 2nd highest intended air yards per attempt (33 qualifiers). A lack of weapons is troubling, but the arrival of Round 3 pick Velus Jones at least supplies another deep threat alongside Darnell Mooney.

New Bears OC Luke Getsy commented on the development of QB Justin Fields. ‘‘I’ve been super-impressed with him, I really have,’’ Getsy said. ‘‘There’s no one in this building that works harder than him. There’s no one that cares more than him. We’re off to a great start. He’s really accepted this challenge. We’re asking a lot of him, to learn a lot of new things. He’s been a pleasure to work with.’’ Formerly Green Bay’s QB coach/pass game coordinator, Getsy is expected to implement “a mix of outside-zone and read-option runs with a vertical passing attack,” per beat writer Pat Finley. Getsy’s almost certainly an upgrade over the old regime. But a lack of weapons around Fields for 2022 remains a serious concern.

The Bears are set to hire Luke Getsy as their new OC, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Getsy has spent the past 3 years as the Packers' QBs coach and passing-game coordinator under Matt LaFleur. Getsy previously worked under Mike McCarthy in Green Bay and has coaching experience at 6 different colleges. He held the OC title at Indiana (PA) in 2011 and 2012 and at Mississippi State in 2018. That Bulldogs team ranked outside the top 60 in total yards and points. Getsy is largely an unknown heading into 2022. The Packers, meanwhile, are expected to promote offensive line coach Adam Stenavich to OC.

The Bears are hiring Matt Eberflus as their new HC. The 51-year-old has been in the NFL since 2009, working as a LBs coach in Cleveland and Dallas before getting the DC job in Indianapolis in 2018. Under Eberflus over the past 4 seasons, the Colts ranked top 10 in points allowed, yards allowed and takeaways. We'll see who he tabs to run the Bears offense.

The Bears fired HC Matt Nagy. This move has been anticipated for weeks now. Nagy went 12-4 in his first season at the helm but totaled only 22 wins over the past 3 seasons. He also didn't seem to maximize QB Justin Fields' skill set this year. Chicago's next HC hire will be key for Fields' development.

Update: Chicago also fired GM Ryan Pace.

Bears QB Justin Fields was placed on the COVID list on Thursday. He'll very likely miss this weekend's finale vs. the Vikings. That figures to put Andy Dalton back under center for Chicago.

Bears HC Matt Nagy said QB Justin Fields (ankle) will put in a full practice on Wednesday and start Sunday's finale vs. the Vikings. Fields has missed the past 2 games, but he finished as a top-10 fantasy QB in each of his previous 4 full games. He's an intriguing Week 18 DFS play.

Bears QB Andy Dalton will start Sunday's game vs. the Giants, HC Matt Nagy announced on Friday. QB Nick Foles will be the backup, so QB Justin Fields evidently isn't ready to return from that ankle injury. Dalton is just a low-end QB2 in fantasy lineups, although he's not a significant downgrade from Fields for Chicago's skill-position guys.

Bears QB Justin Fields (ankle) got in a limited practice on Wednesday. We'll see if he can make it back for this weekend's game vs. the Giants, but Fields will be tough to trust in fantasy lineups if he's not at 100%.

Bears QB Justin Fields (ankle) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Seahawks. Someone named Ryan Willis will back up QB Nick Foles.

Bears HC Matt Nagy said Friday that QB Nick Foles will start Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks. QB Andy Dalton (left hand, groin) is out for Week 16, while QB Justin Fields (ankle) was unable to practice on Thursday or Friday. Nagy said that Fields might be active on Sunday, but it'd be as Foles' backup. Foles made 7 starts for the Bears last season, averaging 238 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT on a 66% completion rate and 5.9 yards per attempt.

Bears QB Justin Fields (ankle) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Seahawks. He was limited on Wednesday but didn’t practice on Thursday or Friday. It’s safe to assume that Fields won’t be at 100% if he starts Sunday’s game, which makes him tough to like in fantasy lineups. QB Andy Dalton (left hand, groin) is out for Week 16, so QB Nick Foles will get the start if Fields is out.

After a limited practice on Wednesday, Bears QB Justin Fields (ankle) did not practice on Thursday. His availability for this weekend's game vs. the Seahawks is now in question. QB Andy Dalton was activated from the COVID list on Thursday and would likely start if Fields is out. Check back tomorrow for another update on the rookie.

Bears HC Matt Nagy told reporters Wednesday that doctors have cleared QB Justin Fields to return from his rib injury and that the rookie will start Sunday night at Green Bay. We're not sure Fields' return significantly impacts the fantasy outlook for any Chicago skill-position players, especially against a Packers D that has been a tough matchup for opponent passing games. But Fields' play had been improving just before the injury, so this should be a positive turn overall.

Bears QB Justin Fields (ribs) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Cardinals. The rookie was limited in practice this week, giving him a shot to return in Week 14. QB Andy Dalton gets another start today.

Bears QB Justin Fields (ribs) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game vs. the Cardinals. The rookie got back on the practice field this week, setting him up for a Week 14 return. Andy Dalton gets another start this Sunday but is a low-end QB2 vs. Arizona's 3rd-ranked QB defense.

Bears QB Justin Fields (ribs) put in a limited practice on Wednesday. HC Matt Nagy said that QB Andy Dalton took the 1st-team reps, though. That would seem to position the veteran as the favorite to start Sunday's game vs. the Cardinals, but we'll continue to monitor the situation.

Additional testing on Bears QB Justin Fields' ribs revealed "tiny fractures," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The injury is "not deemed major," Rapoport adds, and Fields "should return shortly." The rookie won't play against the Lions on Thanksgiving. We'll see if he can make it back for Week 13 vs. the Cardinals.

Bears QB Andy Dalton will start Thursday's game vs. the Lions, HC Matt Nagy said. QB Justin Fields' rib injury isn't believed to be serious, but he evidently won't be ready for the quick turnaround. We'll see if he can make it back for Week 13. Despite the plus matchup, Dalton is only in play in 2-QB leagues and Thanksgiving DFS contests.
