Fantasy Football News & Latest NFL Updates

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

The Bears signed TE Cole Kmet to a four-year, $50 million contract extension with $32.8 million guaranteed. The deal ties Kmet with Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith (LOL) for ninth among TEs in average annual salary. He's now signed through the 2027 season. It's a surprisingly lucrative deal for a guy who's been just fine through three NFL seasons. Kmet has racked up 110 catches over the last two -- 13th most among TEs -- but averaged just 10.5 yards per catch. He ranked 25th and then 22nd at his position in Pro Football Focus receiving grade. Kmet is coming off a TE16 finish in PPR points per game -- and even that was boosted by a 14% TD rate. With WR D.J. Moore bringing additional target competition in a run-heavy offense, Kmet sits in mid-range TE2 territory in our rankings.

The Cardinals are placing QB Kyler Murray on the PUP list to open training camp, to the surprise of absolutely no one. Murray, of course, is working back from a Dec. 12 ACL tear. The main question on him for 2023 has been just how much regular-season time he'll miss. We'll continue watching for more insight on that.

Lions TE Sam LaPorta has already emerged as a "favorite target" of QB Jared Goff, The Athletic's Colton Pouncy writes. "I’m trying my best not to write about LaPorta every day, but it’s hard not to when he looks as dialed in as he has," Pouncy adds. "Not a day goes by when LaPorta doesn’t make a standout play. ... It feels like Goff targets No. 87 on just about every series, and LaPorta continues to be heavily involved with the first-team offense." It sounds like LaPorta has pretty much already locked up the starting job. He has a chance to be the rare rookie TE to make a real fantasy impact. We just moved him up the TE Rankings.

Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown has had a strong start to training camp and cited his still-growing rapport with QB Jared Goff. “I feel like we have a pretty good connection already,” St. Brown said Tuesday. “I know what [Goff] likes. He knows the way I like to run my routes. I’m starting to see what he sees, he’s telling me what he’s seeing, what he’s expecting, so we’re on the same page, for the most part. So if we can just keep that up, I feel like the sky is the limit for us.” St. Brown followed a hot finish to his 2021 rookie campaign with a PPR WR7 finish last year. He's a key player in our 2023 fantasy football draft guide.

Colts GM Chris Ballard suggested Tuesday that RB Jonathan Taylor landing on the PUP list has more to do with contract negotiations than his ankle. Ballard said he and Taylor were scheduled to have a "long conversation" on Tuesday. “Like I’ve always told you, you pay good players, you pay players that are going to help you win, regardless of the position,” Ballard added. It's worth noting that owner Jim Irsay said Taylor was "healed up" a few weeks ago. We'll continue to keep a close eye on Taylor -- both his health and contract situation. For now, we're not moving him in the RB Rankings.

Browns GM Andrew Berry has been impressed by RB Jerome Ford's ability in the passing game. "Feel really good about Jerome Ford," Berry said. "Had a strong spring, pass protection especially. We think his receiver skills are strong." That's particularly noteworthy as the Browns look to replace RB Kareem Hunt, who averaged 3.4 targets per game over the last four seasons. We're not expecting Ford to pick up all of that work -- or be a standalone fantasy option behind a healthy Nick Chubb. But this looks like further confirmation that Ford is the Chubb handcuff, barring an addition to the Cleveland backfield.

The Colts plan to ease WR Michael Pittman into training camp after his offseason hip injury, according to the Indianapolis Star's Nate Atkins. "Pittman said he's completely over it, but they just want to be cautious bringing him back into the fold," Atkins writes. This doesn't sound like a concern, although missed reps aren't ideal as Pittman settles into a new offense with a new QB.

The Cowboys placed TE Luke Schoonmaker on the non-football injury list. He's still dealing with the plantar fasciitis that sidelined him for much of the spring. Schoonmaker landed in a wide-open Cowboys TE corps. But the missed practice time doesn't bode well for his chances of carving out an early-season role. TE Jake Ferguson is probably the better bet for production out of the gate.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Garrett Wilson have been "lighting it up day in and day out" in training camp, according to SNY TV's Connor Hughes. It's not necessarily a surprise that a WR coming off a 1,103-yard rookie season is dominating camp. But it's nice to hear that Wilson's chemistry with Rodgers is already evident. We're projecting Wilson's 2023 numbers to improve across the board from last year.

Jets WR Allen Lazard was sidelined on Tuesday with a left leg injury. "Nothing serious. Should be back pretty soon," SNY TV's Connor Hughes said. We'll let you know when Lazard is able to get back on the field. We're not moving him in the WR Rankings.

According to multiple reports, the Chargers have agreed to a five-year, $262.5 million extension with QB Justin Herbert. This move will keep the franchise centerpiece in Los Angeles through the 2029 season, and the $218.7 million in guaranteed money ranks second behind only Browns QB Deshaun Watson among the most lucrative contract in the NFL. Herbert took a bit of a step back in 2022, finishing 9th in Pro Football Focus passing grade. Some of that can be attributed to the fractured rib cartilage he picked up early in the season and the fact that WRs Mike Williams and Keenan Allen didn't play a single complete game together due to their own injuries. We have faith that the Chargers will bounce back in 2023 under new OC Kellen Moore, with Herbert placed highly in our current QB rankings assuming health for all. Next up on the list of young franchise QBs waiting for a long-term deal? Bengals QB Joe Burrow.

Per the official team website, Cowboys RB Tony Pollard is medically cleared to begin training camp. Pollard sustained a broken fibula in the team's playoff loss to the 49ers in January and required surgery. He'll enter 2023 as the Cowboys' RB1 and play on a $10.1 million franchise tag. While it's still unclear who'll end up spelling Pollard and help shoulder the workload, this is excellent news for fantasy managers to see. We feel confident Pollard will be a stellar fantasy asset this upcoming season. See where he sits in our current RB rankings.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor has been placed on the PUP list ahead of training camp. The former All-Pro back missed the last three games of 2022 with an ankle injury that required offseason surgery. We'll keep an eye on how quickly he'll be able to return to the practice field and ramp up action.

The Giants are starting WR Sterling Shepard on the PUP list for training camp. That's no shock. Shepard's 2022 ended with a torn left ACL. And that followed a 2021 Achilles' tendon tear. We'll see how soon Shepard can return to action in 2023. Don't be surprised if he has a low-impact season in a suddenly crowded WR corps, though.

The Giants have placed WR Wan'Dale Robinson on the PUP list for the start of training camp. This isn't a surprise, given that Robinson is coming off an ACL tear. We'll see how soon he's ready to return to action.

The 49ers don't expect Edge Nick Bosa to report with the rest of the team for the start of training camp. There's no injury to worry about, though. GM John Lynch says the two sides are trying to find the "sweet spot" on a long-term extension that's a "little more complicated," according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Bosa has shown throughout his still-young career that he can deliver even after limited practice time. So this shouldn't alter your draft plans in your IDP league. Bosa hasn't moved in our IDP rankings.

The Cowboys and CB Trevon Diggs have agreed to a five-year extension worth $97 million (plus incentives), according to multiple reports. The $19.4 million annual average ties Diggs for fifth at the position. The deal comes as no surprise. Diggs heads into just his fourth year and won't turn 25 until late September. He announced himself to the public with a league-leading 11 INTs in 2021. That number (predictably) tumbled in 2022, but Diggs improved in coverage. One measure: He allowed a career-low 12.1 yards per catch, down drastically from 18.7 in 2021. Diggs also saw 10 fewer targets in coverage last season despite playing 80 more snaps in coverage, according to Pro Football Focus. Expect the young CB to remain an inconsistent contributor in fantasy football leagues. Diggs sits low in our 2023 IDP rankings.

The 49ers have cleared QB Brock Purdy (elbow) for training camp. He’s expected to be on a pitch count, throwing for two days, followed by one day of rest. HC Kyle Shanahan said they hope to have Purdy throw without restriction in about two weeks. It’s an excellent development for the 2nd-year QB, who’s avoided setbacks in his recovery. Purdy remains the favorite to start Week 1.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid revealed Tuesday that WR Kadarius Toney has had surgery to clean up the cartilage in his troublesome knee. It's the same knee in which Toney had another "cleanup" procedure this offseason. Reid says "there's a chance" Toney could be ready for the start of the regular season. That means you shouldn't bet on him being there. Look for Toney to slide down our WR rankings. His absence through camp and preseason action will present opportunity in a WR corps with roles up for grabs. Just watch the ADP moves on players such as Skyy Moore and Rashee Rice, to see if anyone starts getting into overvalued range. We'll keep our eyes on reports of roles and summer performances.

The Cardinals will be signing TE Geoff Swaim, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Swaim -- who will turn 30 on Sept. 16 -- spent the past three years in Tennessee, after one with Jacksonville and four in Dallas. He caught just 12 passes last season, despite leading Titans TEs in playing time. Swaim caught a career-high 31 balls the year before and has reached double digits in just four of eight seasons. His arrival in Arizona could just mean early insurance against Zach Ertz's ACL return -- or it could signal doubt about Ertz's status. Either way, we're not moving Trey McBride down our TE rankings for this signing.
