We'll look for a more concrete timetable for Shepard's return, but we should at least expect him to miss Sunday's game vs. the Raiders. The Giants then get a Week 10 bye.
Browns WR Odell Beckham was excused from Wednesday's practice, USA Today's Josina Anderson reports. We have no other details at this point. Beckham was the subject of trade rumors leading up to Tuesday's deadline. And his father made social-media waves by posting a video of plays when QB Baker Mayfield missed or failed to throw to an open Beckham. We'll see where this goes. HC Kevin Stefanski is scheduled to address the media at 1 pm ET today.
Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) has been designated to return from IR. That makes him eligible to practice but doesn't guarantee that he'll be back for Sunday's game vs. the Patriots. ESPN's David Newton reported this past Sunday that McCaffrey is "on target" to return for that one, but we'll monitor his progress over the next few days.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has tested positive for COVID and will miss Sunday's game against the Chiefs, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. That will give Jordan Love the start. We'll see whether any other Packers follow Rodgers to this week's COVID list, as we saw with Allen Lazard behind Davante Adams last week.
Update: Rodgers is unvaccinated, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That means Rodgers is out a minimum of 10 days. He's eligible but not guaranteed to be activated in time to play Week 10.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the new ankle injury for Saints WR Michael Thomas will keep him out for the rest of the season. New Orleans reportedly tried to trade for receiving help before Tuesday's deadline but couldn't get anything done. That leaves Marquez Callaway, Tre'Quan Smith and Deonte Harris as the top WRs for QB Taysom Hill going forward. Expect New Orleans to also lean heavily on Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram -- both in the run game and as pass-catchers (well, Kamara, at least, on that front).
Saints WR Michael Thomas is dealing with a "new and separate ankle injury," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Thomas, of course, has yet to play this season after undergoing ankle surgery this spring. Thomas recently visited a specialist and his timeline for return is "unpredictable," Rapoport adds. We'll continue to monitor the situation, but Thomas is not a must-hold on fantasy rosters.
The Raiders released WR Henry Ruggs. Fantasy owners can do the same. Facing DUI causing death charges, Ruggs won't play again this season. And there's a real chance that his football career is over.
Fox Sports' Jay Glazer hears that Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is dealing with a "1-to-3 week type of [ankle] sprain." Glazer later called Murray's injury a medial ankle sprain, which is to the inside of the ankle. "There's a chance" Murray could play in Week 9, Glazer added. We'll get an update on Murray's status when the Cardinals kick off their week of practice on Wednesday. But Murray owners should be lining up a backup plan in case Murray misses this week.
The 49ers released K Joey Slye. That presumably means K Robbie Gould is ready to return from his groin injury for Sunday's game vs. the Cardinals.
Jets WR Corey Davis (hip) did not practice on Tuesday. He's looking unlikely to play vs. the Colts on Thursday night, but we'll get another update on his status tomorrow.
The Rams waived WR DeSean Jackson after failing to trade him ahead of Tuesday's deadline. Jackson caught just 8 balls across 7 outings with the Rams but proved he still has juice, averaging 27.6 yards per catch. We'll see where he lands next, but he's more likely to be a boon to his new QB than a standalone fantasy asset.
Washington expects TE Logan Thomas (hamstring) to return to practice following the Week 9 bye. That presumably puts Thomas on track to return for Week 10's game vs. the Bucs. TE Ricky Seals-Jones played well in Thomas' absence, but expect Thomas to re-emerge as the starter -- and a low-end TE1 in fantasy lineups.
The Broncos have placed TE Noah Fant on the COVID list. ESPN's Field Yates reports that Fant tested positive. If he's vaccinated, Fant would have a shot at returning for Sunday's game with 2 negative tests 24 hours apart. For now, we'd bet on him not being available Sunday against the Cowboys. That would elevate Albert Okwuegbunam to the top receiving role among Denver TEs.
Texans QB Deshaun Watson won't be traded before today's deadline, according to multiple sources. Miami was seemingly the only team really in the mix, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross didn't feel comfortable making the trade. So Watson will remain a healthy scratch for the Texans for the rest of the season. And QB Tua Tagovailoa will finish out this year as Miami's starter.
Raiders WR Henry Ruggs will be charged with DUI resulting in death, the Las Vegas police announced in a statement. Ruggs reportedly rear-ended a vehicle early Tuesday morning. He remained on scene and "showed signs of impairment," per the statement, before being transported to a local hospital. Ruggs is expected to be ok, but the driver of the other vehicle passed away. We're still awaiting a statement from the Raiders, but Ruggs obviously won't play vs. the Giants this weekend and probably won't play again this season. DUI resulting in death is punishable by imprisonment for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 20 in Nevada.
TMZ reports that Raiders WR Henry Ruggs was involved in a serious car accident in Las Vegas early Tuesday morning. No word on Ruggs' condition, but the pictures of the accident look bad. Stay tuned for updates.

The Titans waived RB Mekhi Sargent from the practice squad and replaced him with RB D'Onta Foreman. Foreman was a 3rd-rounder back in 2017 but has totaled just 29 carries since tearing his Achilles in November of his rookie year. He's unlikely to emerge as a fantasy factor but is at least worth monitoring in Tennessee's Henry-less backfield.
Rams HC Sean McVay said Monday that he expects DT Sebastian Joseph-Day to be ready for Sunday's game against the Titans after he missed Week 8 with a chest injury, the team website reports. CB Darious Williams will return to practice this week as well, opening his 3-week window to return to the active roster. He missed the past 3 games while on IR with an ankle sprain.
Giants WR Kadarius Toney left Monday night's game against the Chiefs in the 2nd half after hurting his left thumb. He's questionable to return.
Update: Toney returned midway through the 4th quarter.
